2011 Illinois Marathon Volunteer Sign-Up

March 13th, 2011 by Terry

Here is the information to sign-up online for the 2011 Illinois Marathon Hydration Station @ mile 19.1 and below are a few details on what will happen race day.  Volunteers receive a t-shirt, a string bag and a chance to serve our community and visitors from all over the country.

It’s quick and easy, just click this link: Illinois Marathon Volunteer Sign-up, select “Grace Community Church” for the Group Name, and enter the password: findinggrace11

You will be asked to fill out a form, including shirt size, and that’s it! You will receive a confirmation e-mail after signing up. Everyone needs to sign up individually, this lets the marathon organizers know that our Hydration Station will be fully staffed and makes sure you get a t-shirt in the correct size : )

Some details…
The Illinois Marathon is Saturday April 30th, 2011.   Grace Community Church volunteers set up and work the Hydration Station at mile 19.1.  Our job is to hand out cups of Gatorade, bottled water and cheer and encourage the runners - as loud as we can!  We are at the same site as last year, the northwest corner of the Kirby & Duncan intersection.   The full marathon starts a half hour earlier than last year.  We should see our first runner at 8:40-8:45 and the last one somewhere around 11:45.  The crazy busy time will be about 9:15-10:45 and we should be cleaned up and done by 12:30. If your schedule is tight and you are able to help during the busy time (9:15-10:45), that would be great.  We will need some people to come early to setup (scaffolding, sound system, tables, mix Gatorade, etc), so let me know if you can do this (~7:30am).

If you have any questions, let me know. That’s about it. Sign-up, it will be a blast!!

Ultimate Basketball Challenge Wed April 14th

April 12th, 2010 by Terry

Come out and cheer on Mike Frogley and his amazing, dedicated NIWBT Champion student-athletes for a night of fun.

I know this is short notice, but the 5th Annual Ultimate Basketball Challenge is this Wednesday night at Huff Hall.  Doors open at 5:30,  with the festivities starting at 6.  Tickets are $5/person at the door.  This is a fundraiser for the men and women wheelchair basketball programs and coaches vs cancer.  Plus, it’s just a lot of fun!!  The men and women of the U of I wheelchair and varsity teams play a friendly (mostly) game of wheelchair basketball.  It is a good chance to meet some dedicated student-athletes and watch them have some fun.

2010 Illinois Marathon Aid Station Volunteer Sign-up

January 29th, 2010 by Terry

Here is the information to sign-up online for the 2010 marathon aid station and below are a few details on what will happen race day.

It’s quick and easy, just click this link: Illinois Marathon Volunteer Sign-up, select “Grace Community Church” for the Group Name, and enter the password: findinggrace

You will be asked to fill out a form, including shirt size for your volunteer shirt, and that’s it! You will receive a confirmation e-mail after signing up. Everyone needs to sign up individually, this lets the marathon organizers know that the aid station will be fully staffed and makes sure you get a t-shirt in the correct size : )

Some details…
The Illinois Marathon is Saturday May 1st, 2010.   We are at the same site as last year (north side of Kirby, just west of Duncan), but due to course changes our aid station is mile 19.1 (last year we were mile 15).   We should have a schedule similar to last year.  The runners have 4 more miles to reach our aid station, but the race starts a half hour earlier, so we should see our first runner at 9:15-9:30 and the last one somewhere around 12:30.  The crazy busy time will be about 10-11 and we should be cleaned up and done by 1:00. If your schedule is tight and you are able to help during the busy time (10-11), that would be great.  We will need some people to come early to setup, so let me know if you can do this (7:30-8ish).

If you have any questions, please come talk to me. That’s about it. Sign-up, it will be a blast!!
